Bracing

bracingSpine pain and spine procedure patients may be prescribed a back or neck brace. Braces are designed to limit the motion of the spine. Reducing motion enhances the healing process for many conditions, and will usually help decrease the patient’s pain and discomfort. Bracing is used most commonly in cases of:

  • Fracture
  • Post-Procedure
  • Preventative Measure
  • And More

The type of brace needed and the length of time it should be worn will be determined by your doctor based upon your condition and pain. Some common types of braces for spinal pain and disorders are:

  • Rigid Braces – Most commonly used after surgical procedure or to heal broken bones. These braces restrict approximately 50% of the patients spinal motion.
  • Elastic Braces (Corset Braces) – These braces allow more movement than rigid braces, but still aid in reducing motion of the spine. These braces can be used in post-procedure healing as well as treating spinal conditions, preventative treatment, pain management and more.

The doctors at Comprehensive Spine Institute will assess your condition and can let you know if bracing treatment is right for you.
